Release Number: 020613

6/11/2013 - WASHINGTON -- Today the Air Force announced it will delay its public hearing schedule for the draft Environmental Impact Statement on the proposal to relocate the 18th Aggressor Squadron from Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska, to Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, and to re-size the remaining wing overhead/base operating support at Eielson Air Force Base to afford Alaskans enough time to formulate meaningful comments and prepare for the hearings.

The public hearings, originally scheduled for June 17-21, have now been moved to July 15-18. The hearings will be held in Palmer (Alaska State Fairgrounds) and Anchorage (Mountain View Community Center Boys and Girls Club) on 15 and 16 Jul, respectively, and in Fairbanks (Westmark Hotel and Conference Center) and North Pole (North Pole Worship Center) on 17 and 18 Jul, respectively, to receive additional comments from the public on the proposal.

The draft Environmental Impact Statement, which addresses the potential environmental and socioeconomic impacts of the proposal to Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Eielson Air Force Base, and the surrounding communities, will still be available for a 60-day public review and comment period until 2 Aug 2013.

The public comment period offers the opportunity for interested citizens and stakeholders to provide their input to the Air Force to help shape its decision. The final Environmental Impact Statement and record of decision are expected in Fall of 2013.

The Draft EIS is available for download at www.alaskaf-16eis.com <http://www.alaskaf-16eis.com> and may be reviewed in hard copy format at the following locations:
