12/17/2013 - EIELSON AIR FORCE BASE, Alaska  -- A dinner was held at the Eielson City Center for family members of deployed and remote Airmen Dec. 13.

Families from the 354th Fighter Wing and 168th Air Refueling Wing attended the holiday themed meal to interact with spouses and families who are in similar situations.

"We hold this monthly dinner to provide a social opportunity and support for families who are not able to be with their loved ones who are helping fulfill our nations missions overseas," said Tech. Sgt. Eric Bruntz, 354th Force Support Squadron NCO in charge of the Airman and Family Readiness Center. "We open this time up for members of the Iceman Team who have deployed spouses or spouses who are on a remote tour."

Airman & Family Readiness Center representatives along with Military Family Life Consultants from both Eielson wings were on hand to explain available programs for attendees.

"We have a lot of support we can provide, but the key is getting the information out there so families can take advantage of it," Bruntz said. "We are here to take care of our people."

City Center staff and Operation Military Kids 4-H provided a craft and activities for children. Pictures were also taken and laminated to a pillow case to send to the Airmen who are separated from their families.

"I would encourage any spouse or members who have just returned to attend these dinners so they can share their experiences with families who are new to separation," said Renee Hudnall, whose husband is has deployed several times as a boom operator. "It's good for the spouses and important for the children."

The next dinner is slated for Jan. 17, 2014. For more information, contact the Airman and Family Readiness Center at 377-2178.
