COLONEL BENJAMIN W. BISHOP

Colonel Benjamin W. Bishop is the Commander of the 354th Fighter Wing, Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska.  He is responsible for providing realistic combat adversary training to United States and allied forces in air, space, and information operations via RED FLAG-Alaska, Pacific Air Forces’ premier multinational large-force training exercise, and through PACAF’s only Aggressor Squadron.  He also directs the preparation and deployment of Airmen in support of global operations, enables the staging of forces through Eielson, and integrates air component capabilities into the US Army’s I Corps through the 1st Air Support Operations Group.  Additionally, Colonel Bishop is overseeing preparations for the arrival of the F-35A Lightning II aircraft at Eielson Air Force Base.        

 

Colonel Bishop entered the Air Force in May 1997 as a distinguished graduate of the Reserve Officer Training Corps at Purdue University and earned his pilot wings from Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training at Sheppard AFB, Texas.  He is a graduate of the USAF Weapons School and has had various assignments in the United States and Europe, including operational tours in the F-15E where he deployed in support of Operations IRAQI FREEDOM, ENDURING FREEDOM, and NORTHERN WATCH.  Colonel Bishop previously commanded Detachment 3, 53d Test and Evaluation Group; the 422d Test and Evaluation Squadron, Nellis AFB, Nevada; and most recently the 56th Operations Group, Luke Air Force Base, Arizona.       

 

Colonel Bishop is a Command Pilot with over 2,500 flight hours in the F-35A, F-15E, F-16C/D, T-38, and T-37.
