Michael Power, 377th Air Base Wing and installation commander, detailing how Kirtland Air Force Base was formed during its 83rd birthday celebration at Kirtland Air Force Base, N.M., Feb. 12. Kirtland was formed after Clyde Tingley, N.M. governor, and state leaders petitioned Washington D.C. for a military presence in N.M. in 1941.
