On this day in 1943, Project 85, now known as the Fleet Readiness Center (FRC) East, was formally accepted by the U.S. Navy. Though its name may have changed throughout the years, FRC-East’s mission as the Department of Defense premiere vertical lift center, overhauling and repairing all manner of aircraft, engines and components has remained the same. Additionally FRC-East is North Carolina’s largest maintenance, overhaul and technical service provider.
