Attention All Personnel and Visitors:
Effective June 30th, 2025, Eielson AFB will enforce the REAL ID Act of 2005, in alignment with federal mandates. This act establishes minimum security standards for state-issued driver’s licenses and identification cards, impacting access to federal facilities, including military installations.
Key Points: REAL ID Requirement: All visitors aged 18 and over must present a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or identification card to obtain a visitor pass. REAL IDs are typically marked with the symbols below in the top right corner. For more information, visit the Department of Homeland Security’s REAL ID page.

Enhanced Driver’s Licenses (EDLs): Residents of Washington, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, and Vermont may use EDLs or Enhanced IDs (EIDs), which are acceptable alternatives to REAL IDs.
Existing Base Pass Holders: Current base access credentials remain valid until their expiration. Upon renewal, individuals must present a REAL ID-compliant form of identification to obtain a new base pass.
Alternative Acceptable IDs: Other forms of identification accepted for base access include:
- U.S. Passports
- Military IDs
- Veteran Health Identification Cards
- DHS Trusted Traveler Cards (e.g., Global Entry)
Action Required: Verify Your ID, check your current driver’s license or ID for the indicators listed above in the top right corner to confirm REAL ID compliance.
Plan Ahead: If your ID is not REAL ID-compliant, contact your state’s Department of Motor Vehicles to obtain an updated ID. Be aware that processing times may vary, and some states are experiencing delays due to high demand.
Additional Information: For further details on the REAL ID Act and compliance requirements, please refer to the Department of Homeland Security’s REAL ID FAQs.
We appreciate your cooperation in enhancing the security of our installations.
