The Department of Defense’s (DoD’s) Air Installations Compatible Use Zones (AICUZ) Program balances the needs of military air and ground operations with community concerns by focusing on the Air Force’s policy of promoting public health, safety, and general welfare in areas surrounding air installations while seeking development that is compatible with the defense flying mission.
To accomplish this goal, the Air Force provides an AICUZ Study to aid in development of local planning mechanisms that will protect the public safety and health, as well as preserve the operational capabilities of Eielson AFB.
This 2026 AICUZ is an update to Eielson AFB’s previous 2018 AICUZ and includes the latest information with respect to not only the noise and safety environment but also land uses and development around the installation.
The main components of an AICUZ Study are the presentation of Clear Zones, Accident Potential Zones (APZs), noise contours, and the Hazards to Aircraft Flight Zones (HAFZ). By evaluating these safety and noise elements around Eielson AFB, along with the surrounding land use and zoning landscape, certain land use compatibility determinations and recommendations.
The AICUZ Study, along with multiple outreach materials are available on this site, including a Citizens Brochure and an AICUZ StoryMap, which all contain the same information in different summaries for public viewing.
