As summer approaches, it's time to shake off that winter rust, and get out and enjoy the ultimate playground that we call Alaska.

Before beginning any fitness routine you need to ask yourself where you are fitness wise. Are you looking to maintain your current fitness level or to attain a higher level of fitness? Do you feel Fit to Fight, or are you fighting to get fit?

Regardless of your fitness level, or fitness goals there is something for you at the fitness center and the Health and Wellness Center.

The HAWC will be teaming up with the fitness center in August and moving into a brand new facility adjacent to the existing fitness center. So, what does that mean for you? The Iceman Team will have one facility which will not only cater to your fitness needs, but also your wellness needs too. Think of it as a one stop shop for your body and mind.

You can run thirty minutes on the treadmill and then educate yourself on proper nutrition at the HAWC. After pumping iron you can make an appointment to kick back in a relaxation chair at the HAWC. It has never been easier to take advantage of two outstanding facilities.

Besides having an impressive inventory of cardio and strength equipment, the fitness center is run by a knowledgeable staff that can help you find your fitness niche. You can track your progress and improvements through FITLINXX. A knowledgeable member of the staff can help you get started.

If that is not enough, you can swim some laps in our indoor pool. There are plenty of lap swimming times to suit your needs. The fitness center also offers a wide array of aerobic classes as well.

If you are still unsure where to start then May is the perfect month to decide. 1 May kicks off May Fitness Month, an Air Force-wide campaign to bring awareness of the importance of physical fitness to all Air Force members. May will be loaded with events for every fitness level. Swing by the fitness center or HAWC for more information.

So, put away the snow shovels, drop the controllers to the WII and get down to the fitness center and begin your fitness quest. We will leave the light on for you and hope to see you there soon.
