Eielson Airman dies in accident

Three Airmen assigned to the 354th Fighter Wing were involved in an off-base accident Aug. 1 leaving one Airman dead and another injured.

Alaska State Troopers pronounced the Airman dead on the scene earlier this morning.

“Airmen are family here at Eielson, and losing an Airman is incredibly heartbreaking for our entire community,” said Col. Shawn Anger, 354th Fighter Wing commander. “Our hearts are with the family and friends who will be impacted by this tragedy.”

The identity of the deceased Airman is being withheld until 24 hours after next of kin notification.

The incident is still under investigation. More information will be released as it becomes available.
