Legal Assistance Website helps Iceman team Published April 21, 2011 By Staff Reports 354th Fitghter Wing Staff Judge Advocate EIELSON AIR FORCE BASE, Alaska -- Icemen who need a will, power of attorney, or have a legal question can go online to streamline their next visit to the 354th Fighter Wing Staff Judge Advocate. The Air Force Legal Assistance Website was created last year to increase efficiency and track client satisfaction with the Air Force legal assistance program. It is designed for active duty and Reserve members, retirees, and dependents to assist with legal assistance and commonly asked questions. Because it is a public site, clients may access the site's features from the comfort of their homes without a CAC card but with confidence that the data entered is secure. Many clients have visited a legal office to obtain a will or other legal document only to realize that more information or other documents were needed from home. To help minimize these multiple visits, the legal assistance site addresses the most common reasons for visits, such as wills, living wills, and powers of attorney, by covering the necessary documents and information through worksheet questionnaires prior to visiting the legal office. This reduces the amount of information the client needs to bring and allows the legal office to streamline the process to some degree. The website provides a unique ticket number, which is the only way an attorney or paralegal can access a client's data. In addition to the worksheets, the site also has papers on common legal assistance topics such as wills and family law issues, and provides links to other helpful sites. Legal office patrons can also provide feedback concerning the professionalism and helpfulness of support received from the wing's legal professionals. While the website provides educational and informational material, it cannot replace consultation with legal professionals nor should Airmen rely solely on any website when making legal decisions. When clients visit the legal office and provide their ticket numbers, the staff can then print the legal documents. The website can be a highly convenient service but it is not required prior to visiting the legal office. The office is open for walk-in legal assistance from 1 p.m.-2 p.m. on Mondays and from 9 a.m.-10 a.m. on Wednesdays. Appointments for wills can be scheduled by calling 377-4114. Notaries and powers of Attorney can be handled without appointment during normal duty hours. The wing's legal staff remains ready to serve the Eielson Air Force Base community's legal needs and encourages use of the website to assist each visit.
