Winter activities help Icemen stay active Published Dec. 1, 2010 By Airman 1st Class Yash Rojas 354th Fighter Wing Public Affairs EIELSON AIR FORCE BASE, Alaska -- The winter season is here and for new Airmen it can sometimes be difficult to find things to do during the cold, dark days. Fortunately Eielson has many winter activities to stay active throughout the year, especially during the colder months. During the holiday season, Airmen and their families will have opportunities to learn something new, improve their skills, or spend time with friends and family. For those who enjoy outdoor activities, Outdoor Recreation offers downhill ski lessons throughout the Winter. This is a chance for Icemen of different skill levels to learn something new or sharpen their skills before hitting the slopes. There will be an on-base ice fishing tournament from 11 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Dec.11. If you would rather stay indoors, Lunch Time Crafter's classes on Dec. 8, 15 and 22 will provide lessons on how to make your own cards. Just in time for the holidays, Airmen will be able to make greeting cards to send to their loved ones back home. In addition to winter activities, several holiday events will take place to entertain Airmen and their families. The Youth Center scheduled a holiday all-nighter for Eielson's teens. Following a teen dinner, the YC doors will lock shut giving teens time to enjoy some all-night fun. The event runs from 8:00 p.m. Dec. 11, to 6:00 a.m. Dec. 12. Icemen can also look forward to family events like the Eielson Air Force Base Family Holiday Celebration. The event will take place 5-7 p.m. Dec. 15 at the Yukon Club. Designed for those with families, the holiday celebration will include family activities, musical games, cool decorations, food and beverages. The first annual 2010 Eielson Holiday Gala will be at the Aurora Club from 7:00 p.m. Dec. 22, to 1:00 a.m. Dec. 23. The holiday party will be for adults, and is sure to be a night to remember. These are just a few of the things Airmen can look forward to this winter.
