Students from Crawford Elementary School showed appreciation and gratitude for veterans' constant sacrifices in the Veteran's Day program Nov. 11, 2010.

Children honored servicemembers, retired members of the military, and their families for answering the call to duty.

The Veteran's Day program kicked off with presenting of the colors followed by the singing of the National Anthem. Shortly after, Cynthia Sibitzky, the school's general music teacher, directed her students in an hour long, patriotic musical performance.

"The children put on an impressive show and dedicated a worthy tribute to veterans," said Master Sgt. Daniel Dwyer, 354th Fighter Wing Airmen Leadership School Commandant.

The children honored the military community by singing songs that highlighted the importance of the brave men and women that defend this nation.

In between songs the children broke the silence with historical snippets documenting our nation's long military history.

Although many will remember the glory and the pride, it is important to never forget what veterans gave up to maintain our way of life said Mrs. Sibitzky.

The program highlighted the sacrifices veteran's have made, allowing fellow Americans from all walks of life to enjoy the liberties and freedoms of our country.

Thanking veterans is a challenge, considering all they've done. Many aren't sure how to appropriately share their gratitude.

The answer can be a simple thank you, a kind gesture, and ultimately to live a great life. It is important to try to be a good citizen, a good brother or sister, a good mom or dad, treat others with respect and finally to do the right thing, said Col. Lynn Scheel, 354th Vice Wing Commander.

"That's the greatest thanks you can possibly give a veteran including those who gave their lives," said Colonel Scheel.

As the celebration drew to a close, veterans stood amongst the crowd each representing his or her service branch.

At the end of the program, parents congratulated their children on a job well done. The performance was well received and many were moved by the kind words from the students of Crawford Elementary School.

It was a spectacular expression of sincere gratitude from children in our very own community and veterans here should feel very proud said Sergeant Dwyer.
