As our season quickly shifts from autumn to winter, the 354th Fighter Wing Safety office will focus on season appropriate safety topics.

This year's Winter Safety Campaign, which begins today and runs through April 11, reaffirms the wing's commitment to protect our Air Force family by urging our Airman, civilians and family members to prepare for the Alaska-unique winter season through education and information.

Alaska is a unique environment and can swallow you whole if you don't take in its beauty with some good planning. Before you put yourself or your family in the car, decide to go snow machining, or walk through the woods, stop and ask yourself, "Am I prepared to survive at minus 40 degrees for a couple of days?" and "Do I have a back-up plan?" Remember during our winter months, each time you drive is a potential survival exercise.

Alaskan winters can be an extremely challenging time for driving or participating in outdoor activities. Colder months present unique challenges for keeping safe, but by working together we can reduce the risk in all winter activities.

The Winter Safety Campaign is designed to highlight potential hazards throughout our winter season. Wing safety day is Nov. 15, with opening comments at 10:30 a.m. from wing leadership at the base theater. Our goal is to educate personnel and get them in the right frame of mind to survive Alaska's beautiful great frontier.

Together we can plan ahead and have a safe and happy winter season. Wing Safety is ready to provide assistance and support to everyone in our Air Force Family, and can be contacted at 377-1842 for further assistance.
