Airmen from the 354th Fighter Wing paired with the Alaska Air National Guard's 168th Air Refueling wing earning a Satisfactory rating for the 354th FW and an Excellent rating for the 168th ARW in the week-long operational readiness inspection. More than 100 inspection team members from Headquarters Pacific Air Forces, Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii evaluated every facet of Eielson conducting business 'not-as-usual' during a week-long evaluation.

"The inspection was unquestionably a validation of the Icemen Team's ability to accomplish the mission--you can be proud of your performance and proud of the overall rating of Satisfactory," said Col. Michael Jordan, 354th Fighter Wing vice commander, in an email to the wing. "Your sense of urgency, 'can do' attitude and commitment to the mission were evident throughout every phase of the inspection and did not go unnoticed by the PACAF IG--well done."

ORIs are conducted to evaluate the ability of units with a wartime or contingency mission to perform assigned operational missions. Wings are graded using a five-tier rating system that enables the IG to assess the readiness of the force. Those scores are: outstanding, excellent, satisfactory, marginal, and unsatisfactory.

The ORI was conducted in two phases, phase I covered the bases initial response to a contingency operation, employment and mission support while phase II tested Airmen's ability to survive and operate.

"The PACAF/IG stated that the evaluation is a rating of Eielson's capabilities," said Master Sgt. John Victor, 354th Fighter Wing Inspector General Superintendent. "Considering many units are less than fully manned, meeting the standard is a great achievement and the Wing should be proud that no area will need to be re-inspected."
