FSS celebrates customers, environment Published Feb. 23, 2010 By By Airman 1st Class Rachelle Coleman 354th Fighter Wing Public Affairs EIELSON AIR FORCE BASE, Alaska -- The 354th Force Support Squadron held their annual customer appreciation week Feb. 13 through 19. The event was part of the ongoing commitment for excellent support and services between the FSS and the Airmen of Eielson and their families, "The event is week-long to target everyone on base," said James Grof, 354th FSS marketing director. During the week, the squadron hosted several events that focused on giving back to both to customers and the environment, all revolving around a 70s theme. At Monday's kickoff, customers were treated to free bowling at the Arctic Nite Lanes bowling center. Tuesday, there was a "Go Green" party at the library where participants learned different ways to be environmentally friendly and learned how to conserve energy. Wednesday at the Yukon club, members and their families were treated to a free prime rib dinner with more than 300 guests showing up. That same evening there was a disco skating party at the youth center for teenagers. Thursday FSS customers were invited to get creative at the Arts and Crafts Center, where projects were all made out of recycled materials. Friday at the grand finale families enjoyed games and free pizza and sandwiches at the Yukon club. "I go to pretty much everything they do when they hold these kinds of events," said Monica Clifford, Non-appropriated Funds financial analyst. "It's fun, especially since there's not a lot to do around here." Throughout the entire week FSS gave away prizes including some that were made out of recycled material. The $1000 grand prize was awarded to Ben Jones, an Alaska Air National Guard member. Customer appreciation week is an annual event and also part of the squadron's mission to have at least one large event a month during the winter to help Icemen beat the harsh and sometimes isolating Alaskan winters. "It's good to have a program that reaches everyone on base," said Mr. Grof. "This year's 70s theme was a lot of fun." Next month the 354th FSS will be hosting the winter carnival at Iceman Falls ski hill and lodge March 12. The carnival will have several different events that Icemen can enjoy including races, a trap shooting tournament, human curling and sledding.
