Operation Cookie Crunch gives Airmen a boost

Operation Cookie Crunch kicks-off Dec. 11, when volunteers will collect and package cookies from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Yukon Club for unaccompanied Airmen on Eielson Air Force Base.

During a season usually spent with family, many single Airmen will celebrate their holiday away from loved ones. For many, this may be the first holiday away from home.

Everyone is encouraged to bring cookies to elp reach the goal of having more than 500 dozen cookies to distribute to single Airmen who don't have their families nearby. Contributers may drop the cookies off but are encouraged to take a hands-on role and assist with the packaging also.

There are drop-off locations from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Dec. 9 and 10 at 2432 B Sundog Court in housing, Anderson Elementary School, Crawford Elementary School and the base chapel.

"After the cookies are packaged, the cookies will be bagged with hand-made cards from elementary school students," said Angela DeLuca, the organizer of this year's Operation Cookie Crunch.

After the packages are assembled, the cookies will be given to the first sergeants or superintendents to be distributed to the Airmen.

Operation Cookie Crunch is one of the simply opportunities available for anyone on base to show they remember the Airmen here.

"A lot of the Airmen are missing home now because it's the holidays," said Mrs. DeLuca. "It's good to let them know that people are thinking about them. That's why it's so important to show our appreciation of them, even with cookies."
