Wing Readiness Day prepares Airmen for ORI Published Sept. 21, 2009 By Lt. Col. Scott McCreedy 354th Fighter Wing Inspector General EIELSON AIR FORCE BASE, Alaska -- Due to the end of the fiscal year and associated slow down in operations tempo, 354th Fighter Wing senior leadership see an opportunity to focus on Eielson's Operational Readiness Inspection preparation and deployment readiness. From Sept. 28 through 30, wing personnel, both civilian and military, and units are asked to focus on deployment readiness preparation and related skills. Most organizations will start off with unit leadership remarks detailing the importance of deployment preparedness and training coupled with a series of scheduled wing- and unit-level events. Unit deployment managers and Airmen are asked to review their mobility folders and ensure they are good through next year's ORI. To support this personal readiness, most wing agencies will have open doors for walk-ins to get accomplish items including gas mask fit tests, dog tag issue and legal paper work requirements. Many personnel will be asked to complete on-line computer-based-training courses and other training events, such as Self Aid Buddy Care. Specialized classroom training will be scheduled for wing augmentees, including personnel and cargo processing functions, security forces augmentees and contamination control area team. Units will review and create their Force Protection checklists and shelter-in-place plans. Classroom and academic training will be reinforced with deployment part task training. Unit control centers will be activated as part of a command and control exercise, called FROST BITE. On Sept. 30 ,all units and deployment managers will participate in a deployment exercise called ICE FOG where close to 100 personnel and 20 tons of cargo processed in a mock deployment. As a reminder, all Airmen need to bring their copy of the Airman's Manual as it will be exchanged for a current edition.
