On June 11, an airman basic from the 354th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, was tried by a special court-martial for driving his vehicle on Eielson Air Force Base in violation of a two year suspension of driving privileges. The charge was willful dereliction of duty in violation of Article 92, Uniformed Code of Military Justice. The airman pled not guilty. A military judge found him guilty of willful dereliction of his duty not to drive on base. The airman was sentenced to a reprimand and seven days of confinement in jail.

The event that led to the airman's conviction occurred May 5. On this day he drove on to Eielson and was stopped at Hursey gate. The Chenega guard saw his name on the suspension list, and called Security Forces. The airman had a history of driving while his privileges were suspended; he previously was caught and punished for driving while his privileges were suspended in September 2008 and February 2009.
