As visitors from all over the world flock to Alaska in search of solace, adventure and history, Eielson Air Force Base is doing its part to add to their experience, offering free-weekly tours of the installation.

The weekly tour is open to the public every Friday now until August 29 except holidays and wing down days. During the one-hour narrated tour, visitors will see nearly all facets of life on the base including a stop at Heritage Park where visitors can view static displays of historical and modern aircraft that have served at Eielson.

Those interested in participating in the weekly tour must make reservations by calling the public affairs office at 377-2116. U.S. Citizens must make arrangements one week before the requested tour; foreign guests must call two weeks in advanced. All base tour guests must have a valid driver's license/ID or state-issued passport to gain access to the base.

In addition to the Friday summer tours, Public Affairs can also arrange dedicated tours for groups of at least 15 people. These tours can be customized to accommodate the specific interests of the tour members and are approved based on the size and nature of the group as well as availability of facilities. School tour requests must demonstrate a specific teaching objective appropriate for the student's age level.

Requests for group tours must be received in writing a minimum of 10 working days before the requested date and can be sent by email to community.relations@eielson.af.mil. Requests need to include the composition of the group, a desired and an alternate date, any specific facilities or equipment to be visited and any transportation needs.

Base personnel can contact public affairs to volunteer as tour guides. For more information about the tour program, call public affairs at 377-2116.
