Eielson vet clinic closing

EIELSON AIR FORCE BASE, Alaska --  Effective April 1, the Eielson Veterinarian Clinic will be closing its doors.

Schedules will be released in the near future for limited services--like vaccinations and immunizations, which will be available during the upcoming moving season.

Veterinarian services will be provided through Fort Wainwright's Clinic. Eielson clients will see a dramatic improvement in the level of care available at the FTWW clinic to include surgery, radiology, ultrasound, dental cleaning, same-day and urgent care appointments and an in-house laboratory.

"The biggest change will be the location," said Scott Lambries, 354th Force Support Squadron Community Support flight chief, "Everything else will greatly improve from this move."

The clinic is accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association. The FTWW clinic is one of eight clinics in the Department of Defense that are AAHA accredited. They also have a part-time civilian veterinarian for increased appointment times.

"The FTWW clinic is a full service medical treatment facility with full-time veterinarians on staff," said Mr. Labries. "It's one stop shopping for pet owners instead of multiple stops for pet medical care."

When the clinic changes locations, patrons with any veterinarian appointments or questions will call FTWW's clinic at 361-3013. Scheduling is done on a first come, first serve basis regardless of branch of service.

Icemen that would like copies of their animal's records will need to visit Grace Johnson at the Eielson Vet Clinic prior to April 1. Records that have not been picked up will be transferred and maintained at the FTWW clinic. Also, any refills need to be picked up prior to April 1.

"Although I've made quite a few friends and I'll miss all my patients," said Ms. Johnson, who has been an employee at the clinic for 20 years, "The move to Fort Wainwright will be a good one."
