Prescribed burn to take place Oct. 6 to Nov. 1 Published Oct. 6, 2008 By Staff Sgt. Eric Sheler Bureau of Land Management Alaska Fire Service FAIRBANKS, Alaska -- The US Army Alaska, with the assistance of the Bureau of Land Management Alaska Fire Service, will conduct a prescribed burn three miles northeast of Eielson Air Force Base on the Fort Wainwright Army Yukon Training Area. Burning may be initiated any time between Oct. 6 and Nov. 1, when weather conditions are favorable for adequate smoke dispersal. The purpose of the burn is to eliminate approximately 20 acres of woody debris created during hazardous fuel reduction thinning this spring. All wood suitable for firewood was made available and collected earlier this spring. The remnant slash is unsuitable as firewood and has been piled for burning. Smoke from the prescribed burn may be visible in the Eielson, Moose Creek, and North Pole Areas.
