Staff sergeant sentenced for driving under the influence Published Sept. 12, 2008 By Compiled from staff reports 354th Fighter Wing Staff Judge Advocate office EIELSON AIR FORCE BASE, Alaska -- A staff sergeant from the 354th Medical Support Squadron was tried by the Fourth Judicial District for the State of Alaska for a violation of Alaska Statute 28.35.030, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of an alcoholic beverage on June 29, 2008. In the early morning hours of June 29, 2008, an Alaska State Trooper observed the NCO driving on Old Richardson Highway without headlights and with his parking lights illuminated. When the AST made contact, the NCO displayed signs of intoxication by exhibiting bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, an odor of alcohol and a sway in his stance. Then he unsuccessfully performed the field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest. A data master breath test was administered and the results indicated that he had a blood alcohol level of .158 percent--almost twice the legal limit. A district court judge sentenced him to a fine of $1,500, 45 days confinement with 43 days suspended, 90 days suspended driving privileges, and 365 days probation.
