There is a new option for Eielson community members who want to improve the relationships in their lives without ever stepping into a counselor's office: RELATE. The Access Eielson agencies are proud to offer a new online evaluation tool for singles and married couples for free.

What is RELATE all about:
RELATionship Evaluation (RELATE) is a clinically validated assessment that helps you understand how factors in your family life, personality, social interactions and relationships can affect your marital quality. The online assessment includes about 200 questions and takes about 40 minutes to complete. After taking the assessment, you will receive a detailed report to help you interpret your (and your partner's) responses.

How much does RELATE Cost:
That's the great news. RELATE is absolutely free thanks to a grant secured by Access Eielson to help community members improve relationships. RELATE is normally $20 a couple but Eielson members will be able to enter a special token number instead of a credit card when prompted by the site. You can get your individual token number by calling Family Advocacy at 377-4042.

Is RELATE confidential:
Not only is it free but it is also secure and confidential. You can answer a few questions now and then log on later to finish. If you want a counselor or chaplain to be able to view your results, you have that option so RELATE can be used in a counseling session.

Who should take RELATE:
You should. Once online, the site will guide you to the correct test for your relationship status. RELATE works great for
- people in serious dating relationships who are making decisions about commitment
- engaged couples preparing for a lasting marriage
- newlyweds setting goals and learning to compromise
- married couples seeking to improve their relationship and understand their conflicts
The new READY version of RELATE even offers an assessment for people not currently in a relationship but looking.

If you are in a relationship, you can take RELATE alone, or have your partner participate as well. It's up to you.

What are the benefits of the RELATE assessment:
- A better understanding of your personality characteristics, including emotional health, self-esteem, and flexibility.
- The ability to compare your relationship experiences with your partner including speaking and listening skills, conflict resolution styles, defensiveness and more.
- Easy-to-read graphs and summaries that showcase your responses and your partner's responses so you can quickly identify trouble areas and topics for further discussion.
- Interpretation suggestions and resources to help you take the next step in improving your relationship.
- You'll start TALKING about your relationship, equipped with real data that makes a difference.

What RELATE is not about:
RELATE is not a compatibility test, or a love quiz, or a crystal ball that attempts to predict the future of your relationship. You can't "fail" RELATE, nor will it tell you to break up or stay together - only you can decide that.

RELATE was founded in 1997 and developed by the Marriage Study Consortium at Brigham Young University. RELATE is considered one of the most comprehensive premarital/martial assessments available. Tens of thousands of couples and individuals have benefited from RELATE.
