Wing slogan contest ends; winner announced June 4

The winner to the wing slogan contest was announced June 4 during the 354th Fighter Wing Commander's Call at the base theater.

The contest began as entries were accepted between Jan. 17 to Feb. 15.

A committee of representatives from each group was designated to weed through the submitted slogans and they received 173 ideas from more than 100 participants. They selected a Top 10 to be voted on by base populace between Feb. 25 and March 21. The 554 votes narrowed the selections down to a Top 3.

The 354th FW commander, Brig. Gen. Mark Graper, chose the new slogan from the Top 3.

354th Communication Squadron's Tech. Sgt. Bradley Kuehn's submission: "Ready to Go at 50 Below" will be the new phrase expressing the aim of the 354th Fighter Wing. Sergeant Kuehn received one choice among a three-day no-work pass, dinner for two at Pike's Landing or 100 Force Support Bucks, which are usable at any force support facility on base, he chose the 3-day no-work pass.

All other submitters of entries that made it to the Top 3 received 50 force support bucks.

The other Top 3 chosen submissions and the runner up are:

Runner up: "Freezing Ours to Protect Yours" - Spec. Agent Amy Modlin, Office of Special Investigations

2. "Arctic Guardians, Defenders of the North" - Steve Huskey, (formerly) 354th Force Support Squadron

3. "Living the Dream on the Icemen Team" - Chief Master Sgt. Dean Sprague, 354th Logistics Readiness Squadron

The rest of the Top 10 slogans selected by the committee are:

"Icemen Train, Icemen Reign" - Staff Sgt. Rutherford Alejo, 354th Medical Support Squadron

"Eielson, Where the Best Come to Get Better" - Robert Redington, 353rd Combat Training Squadron

"Northern Trained, Global Ready" - Tech. Sgt. Scott Hanks, 354th Logistics Readiness Squadron

"Titans of the Tundra" - Capt. Meridith Peele, 354th Medical Operations Squadron

"Train Cold, Fight Bold" - Maj. Elizabeth Yogerst, 354th MDOS

"Arctic Cool, Icemen Rule" - Denise Ringhand, 354th Contracting Squadron

The new slogan is a necessary byproduct of the 354th FW's new diversified mission of "Train, Deploy, Enable" and was open to all Eielson AFB community, including dependents.

"Valor in Combat" will remain on the 354th FW patch for heraldic purposes.
