The Air Force's top enlisted member visited Eielson Air Force Base March 28.

Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force Rodney J. McKinley, an alumnus of the 354th Fighter Wing, toured several base units and met with many Airmen during his trip. He said he always enjoys visiting with his Iceman family.

During his visit, CMSAF McKinley discussed the important role today's Airmen play in being positive Air Force ambassadors.

"Military rules apply at all times," CMSAF McKinley said. "Conduct and behavior speak volumes to the entire world."

When asked what top issues Airmen of today should focus on, CMSAF McKinley stressed job knowledge, physical fitness, family well-being, and striving to make professional improvements.

CMSAF McKinley's advice to first-term Airmen is to start-off on the right foot financially.

"Develop a personal budget, start a savings account, invest in the Thrift Savings Plan and be careful not to max out credit cards," he said. In addition, CMSAF McKinley advised Airmen to learn as much as possible about their jobs and the Air Force's heritage.
Looking back on his years of service, he said that the most important thing his Air Force service has provided him is opportunity.

"I'm a boy from a small town in Ohio," he said. "Because of the Air Force, I have had an opportunity to raise my family, an opportunity to get an education, an opportunity to see the world, an opportunity to wear the Air Force uniform and fight for my country...great opportunities."

Although today's Airmen may be filling non-traditional wartime roles, such as Army in-lieu-of taskings, CMSAF McKinley stated that it that it is imperative for Airmen to be proud of their Air Force and the roles and they are taking in the fight on terrorism. The taskings Airmen are filling are not for the Army, but for our nation.

"We are willing to adapt on our journey to meet challenges. We are here to do whatever it takes to win the Global War on Terror," CMSAF McKinley said. "Be proud of where you are and where you are going as an Air Force member. The Air Force is second place to no one."

CMSAF McKinley added that he greatly appreciates the tireless efforts of every Airman.

"You are incredible!"
