CBRNE change to affect all military, emergency essential civilians Published Nov. 27, 2007 By Senior Airman Michael Huntington 354th Civil Engineer Squadron readiness and emergency management training EIELSON AIR FORCE BASE, Alaska -- With the implementation of a new Air Force Instruction, Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosive training has changed dramatically and will affect all Eielson military personnel and emergency-essential civilian employees. AFI 10-2501 IC1, released Sept. 28, requires two types of CBRNE training to be accomplished by the required individuals every 20 months, regardless of Air Force specialty or deployment status. Air Force emergency-essential civilians must complete the CBRNE Defense Awareness Course every 20 months if they are identified as deployable to a high threat area or a medium threat area. This training must be current through a member's deployment. The first phase of training, CBRNE Defense Awareness, involves explosive ordnance reconnaissance. The computer-based training is accomplished in the Advanced Distance Learning System through the Air Force Portal. After completing CBRNE Defense Awareness, most personnel also complete the CBRNE Defense Survival Skills Course. Low threat area personnel who are Air Force-wide UTC Availability and Tasking Summary coded AXX or DXX only require CBRNE Defense Awareness every 20 months until their code changes or they are tasked to deploy to a MTA or a HTA. Then, they must complete the CBRNE Defense Survival Skills Course within 60 days. The second phase of training, CBRNE Defense Survival Skills, is hands-on and is conducted at the 354th Civil Engineer Squadron readiness and emergency management facility at 2778 Central Ave. Members attending CBRNE Defense Survival Skills (hands-on) must have all of the items listed below from Table 6.4 of the AFI in-hand to attend. 1. Before CBRNE Defense Training o Complete the on-line CBRNE Defense Awareness course with in 60 days prior class. o Complete Quantitative Mask Fit Test from the bioenvironmental engineer 3. Bring to CBRNE Defense Training a. Protective mask (inspected and sized) b. Battle Dress Over garment/Chemical Protective Over garment (training) c. Butyl rubber protective gloves d. Protective glove inserts e. Over boots f. Mask spectacle inserts (if applicable) g. Second skin h. Canteen (one quart) with M-1 canteen cap i. Web belt j. Helmet k. Airman's Manual, AFMAN 10-100 l. Computer Based Training (CBRNE Defense Awareness) certification m. Quantitative Mask Fit Test completion certificate. Also required for students to attend class will be boots that fit into protective over boots. That is if you plan on wearing your thick/winter boots to class, bring another pair of boots to slip into.
