Eielson Family Housing residents urged to follow winter advice Published Sept. 25, 2007 By 354th Civil Engineer SQuadron housing flight EIELSON AFB, Alaska -- Preventative Maintenance The best way to avoid inconvenience and liability for damage to your assigned housing unit is to follow a few easy steps before winter arrives. Disconnect all hoses from outside faucets and ensure windows and exterior doors including garage doors are closed. If work is required to ensure windows and exterior doors close and seal properly, call DGR maintenance at 372-4798. Holiday Decorations Residents interested in displaying holiday decorations and lighting should install them prior to the first snowfall. Materials used for displays must not penetrate siding or cause damage to housing units. Holiday decorations and lighting may be displayed from Nov. 10 - Jan. 25. There are no limitations on the number of lights or the size of displays. However, displays cannot be offensive and outdoor lighting must be UL approved. Energy conservation is always a player, so do not illuminate electrical props during daylight hours. Housing tip: Adding a timer in the circuit makes turning off holiday lights a warmer job. Vehicles Inoperative/unused vehicles are not authorized in the housing area. Utility trailers are not recreational vehicles and are not permitted on lawns or communal areas of housing. Major vehicle maintenance is not authorized in family housing. Parking of vehicles on the grass in the French Creek and Moose Lake neighborhoods is no longer authorized. Keep up appearances Please ensure the exterior of your assigned unit meets or exceeds base standards. Store items such as patio tables/chairs, trampoline and bikes for the winter season. If you have questions, call Housing Management at 377-2286.
