All-Terrain Vehicle Injury Prevention Checklist

□ Attend an ATV driver's safety course (SVIA course required for active duty personnel). Contact wing safety at 377-1351 to set up a class (dependant or active duty).

□ Never use a three-wheeler. They are unsafe and no longer manufactured.

□ Ride an age-appropriate ATV. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that no one under 16 years of age ride a full size ATV (follow SVIA guidelines).

□ Provide constant supervision when children are operating an ATV.

□ Never carry passengers. ATVs are designed for one person (unless specifically designed for 2 riders).

□ If ATVs are used during the hours of darkness riders must wear reflective material.

□ Always wear an approved helmet (ANSI, Snell, DOT) with eye protection.

□ Wear over-the-ankle boots.

□ Wear long pants and a long-sleeve shirt.

□ Wear full-fingered gloves

□ Never operate an ATV under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
