New housing construction to begin this summer Published Feb. 21, 2007 By Lorie Dallas 354th Civil Engineer Squadron housing office EIELSON AIR FORCE BASE, Alaska -- The Air Force will begin constructing new multi-family housing units on Eielson in the summer of 2007. This new housing development will be located along either side of North Street, between Koyuk Avenue and French Creek Drive. This development will include 16 four-plexes and three duplexes, for a combined total of 70 new homes. The development will have minimal straight streets to create a more visually interesting neighborhood and will be surrounded by play areas for children. Comfort, a family friendly layout and safety were key elements in designing the new homes. As with any major construction project, utility outages and road closures are to be expected. All outages and closures will be advertised well in advance to minimize any inconveniences to our current residents. Every effort will be made to limit noise and debris from the construction site. The home design incorporates features unique to our living environment. Some of these features include a two-car garage and a recreation room in the basement area. The interior living spaces will provide a warm and comfortable feeling equivalent to quality off-base housing. The living room, dining room and kitchen are open to each other to create an airy and versatile, but efficient space. Each unit will have new Energy Star-rated appliances, including refrigerator, range, dishwasher, washer and dryer. The units will be constructed using high-quality durable materials to replace older, deteriorating homes and to improve the neighborhood and quality of life for our Airmen. The new development is scheduled for occupancy in November 2008.
