EIELSON AIR FORCE BASE, Alaska -- Eielson AFB and the University of Alaska Fairbanks have signed an agreement to house service members on the Troth Yeddha’ Campus starting this July.
The agreement will mitigate a shortage of base housing, offering space for up to 96 personnel. If the program is successful during the first year, the agreement may be renewed for up to 10 additional years.
The agreement will utilize two vacant UAF residence halls, Stevens Hall and Nerland Hall, as a solution to shared housing availability challenges in the Interior Alaska region, that have increased during recent and ongoing military growth.
Eielson AFB currently supports over 8,000 service members and dependents with 97% full capacity dormitories. This agreement offers a realistic housing solution to maintain mission readiness as the installation prepares for incoming active duty KC-135 Stratotankers and increased F-35A Lightning II manning that will bring over 300 new personnel to the area.
The partnership integrates Airmen into the local university environment, providing not only housing, but an additional opportunity for continued education.
Base leadership continues to actively partner with local government and community leaders to alleviate housing strain, prioritizing the readiness, resilience and well-being of all Eielson personnel.
