Absentee Voters Week leaves no wingman behind Published Sept. 24, 2014 By Senior Airman Peter Reft 354th Fighter Wing Public Affairs EIELSON AIR FORCE BASE, Alaska -- Absentee Voters Week starts Sept. 29 and runs until Oct. 6. Voting assistance officers will be available to educate voters on their right to vote and how to cast ballots for the general elections Nov. 4. Capt. Kristin Carl, a 354th Fighter Wing assistant staff judge advocate and voting assistance officer, said residents of Eielson benefit from absentee voting programs. "We are in a remote location where many of us have not claimed residency in Alaska," said Carl. "We also have a lot of Airmen who deploy and this is perfect for them." Service members and qualifying family members have access to the Federal Voting Assistance Program, which makes voting a simple process regardless of location and state of residency. Members here can use the Federal Post Card application, which gets them an absentee ballot, said Carl. "It applies to all 50 states and it couldn't be simpler to exercise the right to vote," she added. Voting assistance officers will operate an information booth and hand out pamphlets during Absentee Voters Week at the Eielson Base Exchange during lunch hours. For more information, contact Capt. Tommy Jefferson, the installation voting assistance officer, at 377-6501.
