Patients at Eielson medical treatment facilities are now able to communicate securely and privately with their healthcare teams anywhere and anytime with MiCare, a secure online communications system.

Through MiCare, individuals can:
  • Communicate privately with their healthcare team online without waiting on the phone
  • Ask their healthcare team for advice about non-urgent symptoms
  • Request lab results
  • Request an appointment
  • Follow up on the status of a referral
  • Request prescription refills
  • View electronic health records, to include current and past medications
MiCare was created with the idea in mind to improve the quality of healthcare that patients receive and to provide a means for patients to have better access to their own health information whenever convenient for them.

"MiCare will make routine health care more convenient for our patients, while reducing unnecessary visits to the MTF, thus freeing up our providers to see more acute patients," said Lt. Gen. (Dr.) Charles B. Green, Air Force Surgeon General. "This is an important goal in Air Force Patient-Centered Medical Home."

MiCare is not government-based and therefore does not require access via a common-access card port, only an internet connection and a username and password.

Due to the sensitive nature of health information, accounts can only be established after positive identification of the requestor. For active duty personnel, an electronic registration with a digital signature is required, but for non-active duty beneficiaries, face-to-face verification is required.

"All kinds of protected information can be sent back and forth on the secure system and it's extremely simple to log on and just send a message to your provider," said Maj. (Dr.) David Robinson, 354th Medical Group chief of medical staff. "MiCare is designed to make communication easy between patients and their provider, whether it's to request an appointment or to ask a question."

For more information or to register, visit the Eielson clinic. Members of the clinic will also be available in the coming weeks to enroll dependent beneficiaries at various facilities around base.
