Get ready for the games Published Nov. 12, 2013 By Airman 1st Class Peter Reft 354th Fighter Wing Public Affairs EIELSON AIR FORCE BASE, Alaska -- The 354th Force Support Squadron will host Lunchtime Sports Tournaments at the fitness center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 12 to Dec. 15. Squadrons from around the base will compete in elimination-style tournaments each week featuring a different sport. The new sports program was created by the fitness staff after noticing the consistent number of Airmen utilizing the gyms during lunch hours. This year will be the first time it is being offered to Icemen. "We see a lot of lunchtime customers coming in to work out and play sports," said Staff Sgt. Stephanie Beil, 354th FSS fitness NCO officer in charge. "We saw this as an opportunity to create a way to boost morale and competition between squadrons." Beil and other fitness staff members hope to give Airmen more physical outlets and sports opportunities during the winter months, when temperatures can drop as low as negative 50 degrees. "This will be a great way to help everybody stay in shape during the winter when nobody can go outside and play sports," said Beil. "There is more to come, and in the future we would like to see squadrons challenging each other to matches." The sporting events offered are: Nov. 12 to Nov. 15, Ultimate Frisbee Nov. 18 to Nov. 22, Wally ball Nov. 25 to Nov. 27, Football Dec. 2 to Dec. 6, Volleyball Dec. 11 to Dec. 15, Basketball For more information, contact the fitness center staff at 377-4489.
