Counting down to privatized housing at Eielson Published Aug. 9, 2013 By Senior Airman Zachary Perras 354th Fighter Wing Public Affairs EIELSON AIR FORCE BASE, Alaska -- Corvias Military Living representatives spoke to Eielson residents during a town hall meeting at the base theater here Aug. 6, saying privatized housing will begin at Eielson Sept. 1. Members of the Iceman Team in attendance were informed of tenant rights and responsibilities as well as the additional services Corvias will provide for residents once the transition is complete. "I'm excited about several additional services that will be made available to you under privatization, such as curbside trash pickup and grass-cutting, to name a few," said Col. Larry Rice, 354th Mission Support Group commander. From Aug. 7 to 9, Corvias will host lease-signing opportunities at the Community Center, along with several other locations on base, to ensure smooth processing of allotment and key start-up paperwork, which includes the lease agreement, Privacy Act form and Air Force Form 594. By Aug. 9, all residents should have either signed a lease or formally declared to the housing office of their intent to move off base in order to avoid financial issues. Residents are reminded that with privatized housing, their basic allowance for housing will be used in-part to pay rent to Corvias, similar to Icemen living off base. BAH will be reflected on the leave and earnings statement but payment will be sent directly to Corvias once the allotment is authorized by the member. While there will be some differences after the transition, on-base residents will not notice a monumental change in the way they live, said Brig. Gen. Mark Kelly, 354th Fighter Wing commander. The reason is that quality of living is a top priority, and both the Air Force and Corvias want happy families. "There's really not that much that's more important than the quality of life of our families here on the installation, especially in the arctic environment," Kelly explained. "Trust me when I say that we want you to have the most enjoyable living experience possible while you are here." Icemen and their families are encouraged to review the Resident Responsibility Guide here and to expect more information as it becomes available.
