EIELSON AIR FORCE BAE, Alaska -- Rank and Name: Airman 1st Class Taylor Shania Boodooram
Duty Title: Medical information systems technician, 354th Medical Support Squadron
Hometown: Teaneck, N.J.
Why is serving in the Air Force important to you? Serving in the Air Force means serving my country, and as far as I can remember I have always had a passion to serve. Service is the gift that we give to the world. It gives us all meaning and continues to support the goal of being a community. Creating relationships allows us to live in peace together. Doing my part in defending that makes serving in the Air Force important to me.
What moment or accomplishment as a member of the Iceman Team are you most proud of and why? Out of my one year being here, I am most proud of choosing to do something significant with my life, something positive. I’m serving in the military, I have always volunteered within my community and earned achievements, but when it really comes down to it, the most thing I am proud of is being a big sister. Knowing my little brother looks up to me makes me always do the right thing knowing he will follow in my footsteps. Relationships and having an impact is what counts most in life.
What is your favorite part of your job? Primarily, I enjoy being able to support and assist those around me on- and off-duty. The way I see it within my Air Force Specialty Code we get to work in many different sections and learn the different pieces of the medical group puzzle. I like that in my career field I can become so versatile and offer a helping hand where needed.
Who inspires you and why? Among the numerous individuals who inspire me, it comes back to retirees and veterans. Continuing what they so bravely chose to do is what keeps one foot in front of the other. Hearing stories about their experiences gives me a sense of purpose in what I chose to do for my country. It drives me to want to make everything around me better. When I was a sophomore in high school, I once had a veteran tell me, “To serve in the military is to live, and sometimes die, with a sense of purpose.”
What's your favorite part about being in Alaska? Without a doubt, I would have to say my favorite part of Alaska is the incredibly beautiful scenery. When I see an aurora, a sunset, or the snow covering everything in sight making it all seem still, as if in that brief moment time stops. When the trees change colors momentarily before falling that it makes you stop and just be thankful you get to experience it. In a way, it’s like one huge painting coming to life over and over again; the winter is like a bare canvas and as time passes, the colors are brought to life.
