An Airman assigned to the 354th Fighter Wing died at a local hospital at approximately 7:15 a.m., Aug. 3.

The Airman experienced a medical-related emergency at an off-base residence, where emergency services responded and then transported the individual to the Fairbanks Memorial Hospital.

The death is unrelated to a recent accident that involved Eielson Airmen on Aug. 1.

“This is a really tough week for our Iceman team. We are absolutely devastated at the loss of another Airman,” said Col. Shawn Anger, 354th Fighter Wing commander. “We’re grieving as an Air Force community, and we’re keeping our thoughts and prayers with the family of the Airman we lost today.”

The identity of the deceased Airman is being withheld until 24 hours after next of kin notification.

More information will be released as it becomes available.
