3rd ASOS, 354th FW mourn loss of Airman

U.S. Air Force Major William Walker, 3rd Air Support Operations Squadron air mobility liaison officer, died April 22, 2024 (Alaska Daylight Time), in the vicinity of Bandung, Indonesia, during routine training.

Major Walker worked as a liaison between the 3rd Air Support Operations Squadron’s Detachment 1 and the U.S. Army’s 11th Airborne Division, both located on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska. The 3rd ASOS reports to the 354th Fighter Wing headquartered at Eielson AFB, Alaska.

“This loss is deeply felt by the Iceman Team, both here and at JBER,” said Col. Paul Townsend, 354th Fighter Wing commander. “Maj. Walker was dedicated to his family and was an active member of the community wherever he was stationed. We send our thoughts and prayers to his family, friends, and the entire ASOS community.”

The incident is under investigation, and additional information will be provided as it becomes available. The 3rd ASOS, U.S. Army’s 11th Airborne Division, 354th Fighter Wing, and 11 Air Force appreciate the Indonesian Armed Forces and U.S. Embassy for their continued support and assistance to repatriate Maj. Walker.
