On July 18th children from the Eielson youth program competed against one another on Bear Island at Bear Lake to find out who would be the sole survivor.

Just like the reality TV show, competitors were broken into teams and competed against each other for immunity in a series of physical and mental challenges.

Challenges ranged from tests of strength and endurance, to tests of memory and even included a scavenger hunt.

"The flour grenade challenge was my favorite," said Joseph Bachmant. "It was a cool idea to use flour instead of balls because you could tell when you hit them!"

Although the children competed for immunity, they didn't actually vote anyone off.

"We didn't do an individual vote off because we wanted all the children to get to participate in all the challenges," said Misty Campbell; Youth Programmer for the Youth Center.

The immunity idol wasn't the only prize for winning a challenge. The winners also could receive a snack for each victory.

The staff even made up a few events as the day went on. One, the bike race, was especially popular.

"My favorite challenge was the bike race," said Will Clymer. "My team really caught up in the end."

But as with all competitions, there can be only one winner. This time it was the Orange Team, consisting of: Randall Adkins, Peter Perez, Kelly Voights, Dylan Wollitz, Cheyenne Wollitz, Dillon Scarboro, Brittany Rogers and Kyle Albert.
