EIELSON AIR FORCE BASE, Alaska-- Staff Sgt. Jason Clapper, Det. 1, 66th Training Squadron Arctic Survival specialist, demonstrates how to use and arrange tree branches to create a ground layer for a shelter to a class of U.S Air Force members of Eieslon and Elmendorf Air Force Bases during the second day of the Arctic Survival Training Course on Nov. 15, 2007. The tree branches provide insulation from the frozen ground. The survival course teaches members how to survive in a severe cold climate. The course consists of shelter building, identifying safe food found in nature, how to stay warm, and how to correctly signal for help. The Arctic Survival Course is conducted at Eielson AFB.
