Airmen bring the heat

Senior Airmen Nicholas Crissman and Derek White, Airman 1st Class Darryl Gulley install squibs into chaff countermeasure sticks August 13, 2010, Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska. The squib provides the explosive charge needed to fire the chaff out of the aircraft. Each of Eielson's Aggressors fly 30 to 60 sticks of chaff on every mission. Some of the TDY units fly double that amount. The 354th Munitions Flight can go through six thousand sticks a week during a typical Red Flag exercise. Once expended, the Airmen must account for each stick and squib to ensure accountability. The Airmen are assigned to the 354th Munitions Flight. (U.S. Air Force photo/Senior Airman Willard E.
