Title
Riders on the Storm
EIELSON AIR FORCE BASE, Alaska--Storm clouds roll over base housing during a thunderstorm the evening of June 17 on base. Lightening storms are somewhat rare to base residents, however it is not uncommon for thunderstorms to occur in Alaska. In an average Alaska summertime, Alaska can see just as much, if not more lightening than Florida. Most thunderstorms that happen in the interior Alaska are unseen due to seclusion on a range; the ones that are seen are extremely visible as the atmosphere gets thinner closer to the North Pole (and South Pole) and storms generally sit closer to ground because of that.
