Fuels Management

EIELSON AIR FORCE BASE, Alaska -- Senior Airman John Lind, 354th Logistics Readiness Squadron fuels management flight, performs a color in particulate assessment May 24 in the fuels management laboratory. A sample 300 milliliters of fuel from a seperator is put into packages for water detection. Airman Lind removes a sample disk of fuel from a package onto a tray, which slides into a reading box. The sample is then, read under ultraviolet light to determine water amounts in the fuel. A sample reading must have under 10 parts per millionth of water to ensure that the fuel is safe for aircraft use. (U.S. Air Force photo by Senior Airman Rachel Walters)
