EIELSON AIR FORCE BASE, Alaska -- Staff Sgt. Mathew Scharder of Kulis Air National Guard Base, Alaska, 212th Pararescue Squadron places the canopy full of snow which will be used for the door for his shelter on 14 December, 2006. He is participating in the Arctic Survival School only available at Eielson. This five day course teaches the basic survival skills needed to know such as making fire, shelter, catching food and using flares to signal for help.
