Depth check

Airman 1st Class Alexandre Leseur measures the thickness of the ice to determine how close they are to their 60 inch of ice thickness goal Dec. 23, 2008, Fairbanks, Alaska. The ice bridge takes six to 10 weeks to complete in sub-zero weather. The ice bridge is actually a series of ice plateaus five-feet deep, 32 miles long and capable of supporting more than 110 tons -- and will melt back into the river as spring thaw hits. Airman Leseur is assigned to the 354th Civil Engineer Squadron range maintenance, Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska. (U.S. Air Force photo/Senior Airman Jonathan Snyder)
