Pacific Air Forces announced Nov. 9 at the Design, Project Manager, and Agent Awards Program at Hickam AFB, Hawaii, that the Replace Chapel Center here was awarded the Top Concept Design Category Award. Eielson's new chapel will serve as a multi-faith worship center.

By winning the PACAF-level award, Eielson's entry was approved to compete in the U.S. Air Force Design Awards Program. All entries will be judged in January 2008 and winners will be announced in February.

The alpha procurement process was used to select an 8A design-build contractor. This allowed the formation of a collaborative team formed by the contractor: Bristol Design Build Services, LLC; designer: Koonce Pfeffer Bettis, Inc., architects, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers - Alaska District; project manager: Jeff Watts, Eielson AFB 354th Civil Engineer Squadron base architect; and George Shriver, 354th CES architect and Lt. Col. David Terrinoni, 354th Fighter Wing chaplain, to participate in the project planning from its inception, the team set out to develop an award-winning design within budget.

The construction sited at Central Avenue and North Street will continue throughout the winter and is scheduled to be completed by late July 2008.
