Fuels Management

EIELSON AIR FORCE BASE, Alaska -- Senior Airman John Lind, 354th Logistics Readiness Squadron fuels management flight, performs a color in particulate assessment May 24 in the fuels management laboratory. A sample 300 milliliters of fuel from a seperator is put into packages for water detection. Airman Lind removes a sample disk of fuel from a package onto a tray, which slides into a reading box. The sample is then, read under ultraviolet light to determine water amounts in the fuel. Airman Lind compares dirt from a single weight monitor to the laboratory's color standards book (also known as the G Scale book) to see what fuel is going into a jet. The residing particulates of the solid contamination in the fuel filter must meet standards of G-0 to low G-3 to be acceptable for any aircraft. EIELSON AIR FORCE BASE, Alaska -- Senior Airman John Lind, 354th Logistics Readiness Squadron fuels management flight, performs a color in particulate assessment May 24 in the fuels management laboratory. Airman Lind is rinsing a single weight minitor (essentially, a fuel filter) with ether, a highly flammable solvent that removes fuel from the filter, to better see the fuel particulates of the solid contamination.
